Who are the Bolshy Divas?

We're disability activists in the style of feminist masked avengers, exposing and discussing discrimination, unmet need and issues which affect people with disability and their families.

Bolshy Divas use humour, art and passion to talk about the overlooked, the unfair and the subtext behind real issues which affect Australians with disability.

There are no requirements to be a Bolshy Diva, just owning a desire to bring about change, a sense of humour and a tonne of 'bolshiness' - enough guts to talk about the issues openly and honestly.  We could be anyone - we are everywhere.  We rank amongst the almost four million people with disability, plus their families.  We are strong.  We are Bolshy Divas.

Because we care, we've uploaded some of our Bolshy activity from 2010 - 2013 for your viewing pleasure.

We posted this post card to our then Minister, Jan McLucas, to tell her what the Divas think about funding that only allows people with disability a few showers a week. Because its bound to make you cranky if you're excluded from life, marginalised or restricted to having one shower a week.

Blithely ripped off from a Guerilla Girls concept, but completely accurate when it comes to employing people with disability. One of our wishes for 2011 is that employers in Australia give people with disability a clear shot at a level playing field when it comes to employment.

Diva note - We don't have anything against Jan. She's just the lady in the job. But we really want to make sure that the dismal state of affairs that is the disability sector is accurately described so that the right people in the right jobs have the best chances of fixing the issues. That's why many of our postcards and messages are posted to politicians and people in key roles.
